I am absolutely a sucker for a great movie marathon.  I love it when TNT or something runs something like a Oceans 11 and beyond marathon.  Every year at Christmas there is a Christmas Story marathon.

If you have ever been to the Science Museum in St. Paul, they have the Omnitheatre.  I call it the "half a Sphere" theatre.  Relating to the Sphere in Las Vegas.  That one is 360 and the Omni is more of a 180.  But still super cool. The images still feel like they are all around you.

The movie marathon that I am talking about is called Omnifest.  There are five movies that will be shown in succession at the Omnitheatre in the Science Museum of Minnesota.

Omnifest is back! During this beloved Science Museum tradition, catch five stunning experiences on the Omnitheater’s giant screen. A movie marathon like no other, Omnifest features larger-than-life treks through unknown corners of the cosmos and playdates with nature’s coolest creatures. Dive deep into the breathtaking scenes beneath our seas, travel the world’s most pristine ecosystems, and experience extreme volcanic activity  — all without ever leaving downtown St. Paul.

YOU CAN WIN PRIZES JUST FOR WATCHING THE MOVIES

There is a passport that you can get where you collect stamps after watching, 1 or 2 or all 5 of the movies in the series.

Once your passport is complete, head to the Explore Store on Level 5 to collect your winnings.

WHAT ARE THE MOVIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO WATCH

There are five movies, and they run back to back daily.  So, if you don't have time to watch all of them in one day, you can come back to finish the series.  These are the five movies, and a description from the Science Museum on each one.

MOVIE ONE

Apollo 11

Crafted from a trove of 70mm footage and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings, Apollo 11 takes viewers straight to the heart of NASA's most celebrated mission — the one that first put men on the moon. Immersed in the perspectives of the astronauts, the team in Mission Control, and the millions of spectators on the ground, vividly experience those momentous days and hours in 1969 when humankind took one giant leap into the future

MOVIE TWO

Into America's Wild

Narrated by Morgan Freeman, Into America's Wild takes you on a cross-country journey to some of the most beautiful but little-known landscapes of North America. From the wilds of Alaska and the lush coastline of Oregon to the ancient canyons of the Southwest and the rolling hills of the Appalachian Trail, this nonstop adventure via kayak, train, bike, hot air balloon and other thrilling vehicles explores the transformational allure of wild places and the human connection we all share with the natural world.

MOVIE THREE

Oceans: Our Blue Planet

Oceans: Our Blue Planet takes viewers on a global odyssey to discover the largest and least explored habitat on earth. New ocean science and technology has allowed us to go further into the unknown than ever thought possible. From the coastal shallows to deeper, more mysterious worlds, this film reveals the untold stories of the oceans' most astonishing creatures.

MOVIE FOUR

Volcanoes: Fires of Creation

Explorer Carsten Peter leads audiences across the globe to discover molten worlds and exploding craters in this adrenaline-filled, immersive experience that reveals the powerful forces shaping our planet.

MOVIE FIVE

Lost In Space: A Stellar Tours Adventure

Captain a spaceship, explore the universe, and search for signs of extraterrestrial life in this live digital telescope show.

WHEN ARE THE SHOWS AND WHAT IS THE COST

Omnifest is going on daily from February 26th through April 5th, 2026. The Omni theatre is included in the price of the museum admission.  But that is only for one show.  If you would like to see multiple shows at once - like the entire series, each show will cost an additional $9.95 each. There are some ways to get some discounts as well.  You can explore that option by going to the Science Museum site.
