When people who don't live in Minnesota and sometimes people who do live here think about foods that Minnesota is known for most people would probably mention hotdish.  Hotdish, otherwise known as a Casserole has always been a basic staple on the dinner table.

FOOD AND RESTAURANTS IN MINNESOTA HAVE EXPANDED CULTURALLY

In recent years, the food culture has become much more expanded, even though people will probably think of Minnesota and hotdish going hand in hand.

With all of the different cultures that are now here in this state, you have so many choices for food dishes.  Somali, Hmong, Ethiopian, Mexican, and East African communities have dramatically shaped dining options across the state.

LOCAL RESTAURANT HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

Many of these places have been recognized and nominated for some National Awards.  One of which is Krewe in St. Joe.  Krewe has some delicious Creole food options with a New Orleans flare. Its co-founder and head chef, Mateo Mackbee, was named a semifinalist for the prestigious James Beard award for Best Chef in the Midwest.

SEVERAL RESTAURANTS IN THE MINNEAPOLIS AREA HAVE WON AWARDS

Minneapolis has also been recognized several times for many different restaurants, many of which have taken home the James Beard award mentioned above.  All you need to do is a quick Google Search to find some of the best restaurants in Minnesota.  And it's not just Minneapolis, but these are some of those restaurants in the Minneapolis area.

There are several smaller towns around the area that are kind of "hole in the wall" places that have some really great food dishes.  I have never been to Betty's Pies in Northern Minnesota, but people just rave about it.  Betty's Pies recently in the path of the wild fires.  It was close - like 15 feet, but fire fighters saved the restaurant, and they have since reopened after having to evacuate.

Now I feel like I definitely need to take a little road trip up to the Two Harbors area and have a great piece of pie!
