No More Wondering – This Annual “Party” Officially Done
Traditions are something that many people look forward to. Whether it's a family tradition or a town tradition, something you and your friends consider a tradition, it comes in many forms. And when they are over, or no one seems to want to participate anymore, these traditions can go away.
A TRADITIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL IN MINNESOTA HAS CALLED IT QUITS
That is exactly what has happened to the (used to be) annual Basilica Block Party. It used to be so fun to go and enjoy the food, drinks, bands, etc. It has been struggling for the last 6 years. When the pandemic happened in 2020, obviously, we all knew things like this would most likely be cancelled. Then it was brought back briefly in 2021, but that was still a tough year. The event has been cancelled again in 2022 & 2023. Tried to come back again in 2024, but then cancelled again in 2025 with the message that it would be considering "new possibilities and partnerships".
Now, it's 2026, and the decision has been made to end the event permanently.
From KARE 11:
THIS WAS STARTED AS A WAY TO RAISE FUNDS WHILE HAVING A LOT OF FUN
The Basilica Block Party was instituted in 1995 and was used as a fundraiser for the restoration of the Basilica of St. Mary's. It's always needing some sort of fundraising, so what is the answer with the cancellation of this event? They have a new program. It's called Restoring Beauty, Inspiring Hope. A Campaign to renew the Basilica of St. Mary. If you want some more information on that campaign, you can check out their website.
