ST. CLOUD - Granite City Comics in downtown St. Cloud is giving away thousands of comic books in honor of Free Comic Book Day.

This year, the shop will be featuring around 50 different comic books to choose from. There are comics available for both kids and adults. Each person can choose up to four free comics. The event lasts until 6:00 p.m. at the shop.

Over 1,000 people are expected to stop by the store.

Local comic artist Stephanie Cofell was at the store, she says this is her first year being at Granite City Comics for the event.

"Every single year I've been out of town [for the event], I'm excited to finally be here for it today," Cofell says.

Free Comic Book Day is celebrated around the world and has taken place on the first Saturday in May each year since it first started in 2002. The event celebrates independent comic book shops.
