EVANSTON - The Gophers broke their two game losing streak, defeating Northwestern 20-17 for a Big Ten victory today.

James Manuel broke the 7-7 tie in the third quarter with a huge 24 yard interception return. Chris Hawthorne added two field goals to help the Gophers seal the victory.

Coach Jerry Kill, who is on leave due to his troubles with epileptic seizures, traveled all the way to Illinois to watch the team play today.

David Cobb rushed for 103 yards off of 20 carries for the Gophers. Philip Nelson finished 8/11 passing with 112 yards and a touchdown for Minnesota.

 

Up next, the Gophers will return home to take on Nebraska. Game time is schedule for 11 a.m.
