FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The name of a Mahnomen County sheriff's deputy who was fatally wounded on duty will be added to the Law Enforcement Memorial in the nation's capital next month.

Christopher Dewey died last August, nearly 18 months after being shot while responding to a report of a drunken driver in Mahnomen.

His service will be recognized during National Police Week, May 15-21.

But Dewey's sister-in-law, Hannah Bergman, says family members can't afford to attend the ceremony in Washington. So Madison, Wis., police officers have set up a web site to help them go. Bergman recently joined the Madison Police Department.

Thirty-four-year-old Thomas Lee Fairbanks, of Mahnomen, is due to go on trial Aug. 1 in Crookston on first-degree murder charges.

He faces life without parole.
