ST. CLOUD -- The race for Stearns County commissioner in District 4 pits longtime commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier against newcomer Darrell Bruestle.

Lenzmeier says he's running for re-election because there's more work to do in steering the county to benefit all citizens. And, he says it starts with public safety...

The point I'm making is that St. Cloud is not Hooterville anymore.  The reality is we have to be much more aware of our surroundings as we move through the community, and we have to look out for each other.  We can't hire enough cops to protect folks.  Folks just have to start looking out for each other.

Challenger Darrell Bruestle says it's time for new ideas and new commissioners...

I'm running against the 4th District incumbent who's been there 26 years.  That's the biggest thing we need...more turnover.  Being there 26 years is ridiculous.  I'll be right up front, that's (feeding) at the trough.  We need people in there for two, three, maybe four terms at the most.

Lenzmeier says public safety, increased access to technology, and roads are his priorities.

Bruestle says reducing spending, lower taxes, and veterans issues are on his agenda.

Stearns County District 4 represents Clearwater, St. Augusta and parts of St. Cloud.
