Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater for Dennis A. “Denny” Lang, age 89, of Annandale, who passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Reverend Steven Hoffman will officiate. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Family and friend may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in Clearwater and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be held 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Dennis was born on May 1, 1925 in Richmond, Minnesota to Albert and Alma (Hemmesch) Lang. After graduating from Richmond High School, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Bismarck during WWII. The ship he was on was bombed and Dennis swam for 7 ½ hours before he was rescued. After his discharge, Dennis was employed for Gilmer Monument in Howard Lake before buying the hardware store. He owned and operated Lang Hardware from 1950 to 1977. He also sold real estate for DAL Reality. Dennis married Ruby and they had one son. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Clearwater American Legion Post #323.

Dennis enjoyed golfing, traveling, fishing, hunting, dancing, casino trips and playing blackjack. Above all, he treasured time with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby of Annandale; children, Rick (Barb) Lang of Clearwater, Terry Knuth of Howard Lake, Kris (John) Shasky of Minneapolis; step-children, Judy Jacobs of Moose Lake, Linda (Ray) Locke of Park Rapids; Cindy (Gordy) Hoglund of Monticello, and Jerry (Rita) Hitter of Hurley, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marguerite Lang; and sister, Ginny Andrews.

A Special Thank You to the Staff at both the St. Cloud Hospital and the Buffalo Hospital for the exceptional care given to Denny.
