MELROSE - Stearns County is the top dairy-producing County in Minnesota, and Breakfast on the Farm gives people a chance to see the practice first-hand.

The event is a hand-on, educational gathering that brings together producers and consumers and helps people of all ages learn about where their food comes from.

Breakfast on the farm takes place at Funk’s Midway Dairy in Melrose. The Funk family hopes the event creates a link between families and how food makes it to their tables from local Minnesota Farms.

Breakfast and ice cream were served with tours of the farm afterwards. People could check out the cows and learn all about how they’re milked on the farm. There are over 69,000 dairy cows on over 720 farms in Stearns County alone.

In 2012, cows in Stearns County produced 152.4 million gallons of milk.

Activities like a petting zoo and obstacle course were also open for children during the event.
