Melrose

Melrose is a town of 3,598 people in western Stearns County along Interstate 94 and Highway 52. The town was named after Melrose, Scotland because the early settlers were Scottish. To help tell the story of Melrose I was joined by local historian Roger Paschke, Mayor Joe Finken and City Administrator Colleen Winter.

Downtown Melrose has seen some vibrancy added to it with a new mural and the addition of flowers downtown.

A man and child sent to hospital after a crash near Melrose

The city of Melrose withstood a confirmed EF-1 tornado on Saturday August 3 with damage to portions of the town. The tornado was on the ground for a short period of time from 8:10 - 8:16 p.m. Melrose Mayor Joe Finken joined me on WJON. He explained the tornado had sustained winds of 95 miles per hour which came from the north and moved southeast.

A Melrose woman died in a single-vehicle crash yesterday Monday afternoon.

Local speech and debate students performed well at the Minnesota State High School League Speech State Tournament in Apple Valley this weekend.

There is a bond referendum this summer in the Melrose school district. The district is asking for $29.94 million to help pay for upgrades to the school that was originally built in 1969.
