ST. CLOUD -- Preparation is already underway for many construction projects in central Minnesota thanks to the early start to spring.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be completing a project along Highway 10 which was started last summer. Crews will be resurfacing each direction of Highway 10 between St. Germain Street in St. Cloud and east of County Road 33 in Sauk Rapids. The project will get started in earnest this month and be completed sometime in July.

Work will also continue along Interstate 94 between Rogers and St. Michael this summer causing some traffic shifts and delays for motorists.

Finally, MnDOT will begin a bridge replacement project on Highway 24 in Clearwater. The new, two-lane bridge over the Mississippi River will be built just to the east of the current bridge and should have only minimal impact on traffic flow due to heavy equipment moving through that construction area.

Once the new $20,000,000 bridge is completed in 2017, the old bridge will be torn down.

MnDOT estimates traffic volumes to increase from its current level of 14,800 vehicles per day to more than 30,000 per day by the year 2040.
