COLD SPRING -- The Cold Spring City Council unanimously selected their new police chief at last night's (Wednesday) meeting.

Eric Johnson with the Minneota Police Department was offered the job as the city's top cop.

He was hired at the Minneota Police Department in 1996 as a patrol officer. One year later he was hired on as police chief.

Johnson says he's looking for direction from the department on what issues they feel the city needs to address.

Johnson says although it will be hard to leave Minneota, he's looking forward to his career in Cold Spring.

Fran Ramler is the committee chair. He says it was a tough choice to make. The committee cast four rounds of ballots before unanimously agreeing to select Johnson.

Johnson will start his new position pending the results of a psychological, physical and background investigation.
