COLD SPRING -- With a vote of 2-2 the Cold Spring City Council came to a stalemate  on whether to offer the job as top cop to Eric Johnson last night.

The council went into a closed session for about an hour before taking a vote. Mayor Doug Schmitz motioned to offer the job to Johnson.

Fran Ramler and Bob Thelen voted against it citing new information they learned about Johnson that can't be discussed publicly. Schmitz says the council hasn't discussed where they will go from here.

Johnson recently resigned from his position as the police chief of the Minneota Police Department when the council made him a conditional job offer.

The council meeting ended last night without offering Johnson a contract. Schmitz says this topic will most likely be on the agenda at their next council meeting in March.
