ST. JOSEPH -- Two people escaped injury after their pickup truck caught fire early Saturday morning.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Gage Rubash of Richmond was driving his 2001 Dodge Ram on County Road 133 just northeast of St. Joseph at about 1:15 a.m. when he noticed a loss of power.

When Rubash pressed down on the gas pedal, he smelled smoke inside the cab. Rubash pulled over and noticed a small fire by the fuel door area and underneath the bed of his truck. Rubash and his passenger moved away from the truck and soon saw it become fully engulfed.

Emergency crews responded and closed the road to traffic. The St. Joseph Fire Department put the flames out.

No one was hurt, but the truck is a total loss.
