HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I received my first 'Merry Christmas' card in the mail this year on Monday, November 4th, 2024.

The first thought that ran through my head was, "Wow! They are on it!" I have to admit, getting a card in the mail is still a celebratory happening in my world. It's just a little piece of kindness to know that someone in this world recognizes you, and took time out of their day to purchase a card, find your address, buy a stamp, and put it in the mail so the recipient receives their card ahead of the holidays. Sometimes it sounds so easy, but it's easier said than done.

It also made me wonder; Is it too late for me to order holiday cards?

HOW MANY CARDS ARE SENT OUT EACH YEAR?

Surprisingly, there are more people who still send out holiday cards than you think.

According to Hallmark, Christmas is the largest card-sending holiday in the United States. They say that about 1.3 billion cards are sent each year.

WHEN SHOULD WE SEND OUT OUR CARDS?

When is the proper time to send out your holiday cards? Is it November 1st? Is it after Thanksgiving? Is it on Halloween, October 31st? Your recipients won't get the cards then until at least November 1st or 2nd? Do you think that's too early?

THE BEST TIME TO SEND OUT HOLIDAY CARDS

A website called Minted has created a Christmas Card Etiquette Guide, that tries to answer all of the most common Christmas card questions, like:

  • Why you should send Christmas cards
  • When should you send Christmas cards
  • How late is too late to send Christmas cards
  • How many cards does the average person send?
  • What should you write on a Christmas card?
  • Should you sign Christmas cards by hand?
  • How do you sign your cards when the whole family is involved?
  • How do you put a card in the envelope? Is there a right way?
  • What is the proper way to address your envelopes?
  • Do you put a return address on Christmas card envelopes?

The article says that most people send between 50 to 100 cards, but you should consider what you can afford. You'll be paying for the cards and the stamps; you'll need to have people's addresses and don't forget if you are married, you've got to remember to send them out to both sides of the family.

Just know this. There's not a person out there who doesn't like being noticed during the holidays.  I hope we inspire you and your family to send out cards this year. Happy Holidays!!!!
