Fishing has been good in Central and Northern Minnesota. That according to Glen Schmitt of Outdoor News. Glen joined me on WJON again this week. He says water temperatures are rising by not as quickly as you might think.

The fourth of July weekend brings many people out to Minnesota lakes. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says the Minnesota DNR and law enforcement are increasing their efforts to curtail boating under the influence of drugs and alcohol this weekend.

The Minnesota DNR released a draft of its wolf management plan last week. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON this week. He says this it the first update since the initial plan was enacted in 2001. The plan does include options for hunting and trapping if certain benchmarks are met.

Warmer weather means a different strategy on how to catch fish in Central Minnesota. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says this is a big transition week with water temperatures on a sharp increase. Schmitt says your presentation and where you find fish changes.

The DNR has released turkey hunting season numbers with the seasons now complete. The DNR is reporting 12,300 turkeys were harvested which is the 4th highest ever recorded. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON this week. Schmitt says just under 12,000 were shot last year.

The high water levels continue to be a factor on the chain or lakes in the Richmond/Cold Spring area. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON this week. He says the Sauk River chain of lakes still has a no-wake zone. Schmitt says initially when it was implemented they put a restriction that boaters had a no-wake restriction within 300 feet from shore.

The water levels on our lakes, rivers and streams in Central Minnesota have gradually receded over the past couple of weeks but some areas of the state continue to struggle with high water levels. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON this week.

The Minnesota walleye fishing opener is Saturday May 14. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says walleyes are done spawning and are looking to feed.
