Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Now Enrolling For Explorer Program
ST. CLOUD - The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is looking for young people who are interested in a career in law enforcement.
The Youth Explorers Program has room for up to 30 people, ages 15-21. Members meet every Sunday night and cover a multitude of topics.
Stearns County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Theisen says one of the highlights of the program is a chance to learn how to handle different scenarios.
"They get experience in learning hostage negation, arrest and search, traffic stops and a whole multitude of different scenarios."
Explorers are also certified in first-aid/CPR.
Theisen says if you are interested in learning more about the explorers they have a meeting this weekend.
"Youth can come with their parents. We explain more, they have a chance to get a tour of the Law Enforcement Center and look at some cars. If they would like to join they can fill out an application."
The meeting will be on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of the Sheriff's Office in St. Cloud. If you can't make it to the meeting but would like more information you can call 320-259-3700 and ask to speak to a Explorer Adviser.
