UPDATE: Big Lake Man Dead In Sherburne County Crash

BIG LAKE -- A Big Lake man is dead after a three vehicle crash in Sherburne County Wednesday morning.

The incident happened just before 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 17/81 in Big Lake.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 33-year-old Matthew Barthel was heading south on County Road 81, crossing the highway on a green light, when he was hit by a Jeep that ran a red.

The crash sent Barthel's vehicle crashing into a third vehicle driven by 47-year-old Jeffrey Mateyka, of Becker. He was not hurt.

Barthel was taken to CentraCare Hospital in Monticello, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep, 35-year-old Juan Morales of Big Lake, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
