ST. CLOUD -- Learning how to change semi tires, building their own gas-powered R/C cars and racing them. These were just a few of the things local kids did during the four days of NITRO-X Camp at St. Cloud Technical and Community College.

This was the 3rd year of the program at SCTCC.

SCTCC Automotive Instructor Byron Byker says the kids took part in a lot of different activities.

"We gave them a tool day, actually made them a fidget spinner this year with auto parts in them, they got to press that together, everyday was focused on something different."

Byker added it was great seeing the kids learn during the four days.

"We gave them a chance to do things with their hands, that's what we wanted to do...and told them it's ok if we break something. We'll fix it and learn from it."

The R/C cars the kids built all had working transmissions, brakes and electronics. Race day on Thursday had all 16 kids show off their creations to their parents, and staff of SCTCC.

Local dealers also brought semis and muscle cars for kids to get an up close look at.
