LITTLE FALLS -- The Morrison County Sheriff is reminding you to use extreme caution when venturing out onto the ice this spring.

Sheriff Michel Wetzel says spring ice is not as strong as ice during the winter season. He says the increasing strength of the sun and melting water weakens the ice.

Wetzel says two feet of ice during the winter can sufficiently support the weight of a vehicle but spring ice may not.

He says spring ice also makes it difficult for rescuers to get to anyone who falls through.
