ST. CLOUD -- Nothing but dirt stands in place of what was once the home to thousands of St. Cloud State University students.

Demolition of W.W. Holes Hall began earlier this summer. Crews started with interior demolition during May and the entire structure was demolished in late June. Dan Pederson, Director of Residential Life says the original plan was to have most of the deconstruction done before students return to campus in the Fall. Pederson says so far the project is on schedule.

"The construction fencing has been moved all the way back to just cover the perimeter of the area where the building used to exist," says Pederson.

Most of the project has been completed. Pederson says only the final stages remain.

"We've capped off the existing access tunnels, the other substantial parts of this project are to replace the irrigation system and then hydro seat the area so that by next spring we'll have lovely, beautiful, green space for our students to use."

The final stages are expected to be completed by the end of fall. Pederson says the remaining construction will not affect students when the semester starts.

"The fencing area now just encompasses the footprint of where the building used to exist, so none of this is going to impact anything regarding our fall move-in process or the beginning of classes."

The university will be hosting a remember W.W. Holes Hall event on Saturday, September 17.  St. Cloud State's freshman move-in day is this Thursday and classes begin Monday, August 22.
