ST. CLOUD - A graduate of St. Cloud State University has won a trip to the South Pole.

Jason Thomas entered-and-won the contest sponsored by Thomson Reuters to travel with a team of explorers across Antarctica.

He says he found out he was the contest winner earlier this year, and spent a week training in Iceland in April.

Thomas will join two veteran explorers as they attempt to set a world speed record to the South Pole.  They'll make the trip on December 13th and 14th, which is the 100th anniversary of the first arrival to the South Pole.

Thomas graduated from SCSU in 1999. He lives in Canada now.
