SAUK RAPIDS -- A love of volunteering and connecting with the community has led April Myers to be named the 2016 Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year.

Several members of the Sauk Rapids community attended the presentation of the award this (Monday) afternoon at the government center to enjoy cake and celebrate the impact Myers has made on the area.

"I'm very honored," says Myers, who has lived in Sauk Rapids since 1995. "It takes so many people to build the community -- Sauk Rapids is a great community and I'm just very proud."

"Reconnecting with all the people who played such an important part in my life and reminiscing and just celebrating Sauk Rapids has been my favorite part."

Myers is active in the community in several ways, volunteering at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School and Living Waters Lutheran Church, being involved with community education, and with the Great River Rotary Club.

"Just being able to make a difference, the experience is one that I'll never forget," Myers says. "We also volunteer a lot as a family and it gives us something to do to give back and be connected to the community."

"I just like to get involved and give back -- if you need a volunteer, I'm going to be there."

Myers encourages anybody interested to get involved in volunteering, saying that the smallest actions can make the biggest difference for a community.
