KIMBALL - It's a first-of-it's-kind event for this area, the Mudman race coming next month to Powder Ridge near Kimball.  It's on Saturday, August 18th.

It's described as a 5K extreme obstacle course.  Their website says, "only after you've conquered fire, beaten a Gladiator, survived the hills, climbed Tire Mountain, and endured the mud will you know if you have what it takes to be called a MUDMAN.

This week I had a chance to get a sneak peak at the course, along with some of my co-workers here at Townsquare Media.

We climbed the big hill - and it's a very big hill - that starts the race.  We ran through pits of water, navigated our way over water on large pvc pipes, climbed hills of mud, did the army crawl under barbed wire, and experienced the "snake pit".  We didn't see the whole course, because they're still putting some of the obstacles in place, but we definitely got a feel for what the real thing will be like on race day.

To be honest, I had to be talked into giving it a try.  But, I'm sure glad I did!  We all had a great time, and it's was a fun unique experience.  I work out on a regular basis and it was difficult for me, so you do have to be in pretty good shape.  My battle wounds consisted of mostly some scrapes on my shins ans elbows.  While others in our group were pretty stiff and sore.

If you're tempted to give it a try, I say go for it!  They are still taking registrations.  You only live once, and you'll have a great story to share with friends and family.
