CLEARWATER -- A Stearns County creek is being taken off the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's list of impaired waters. The MPCA is recommending Plum Creek near Clearwater be delisted.

Seven years ago, the creek was named an impaired water due to E. coli contamination.

Residents in the area formed the Plumb Creek Neighborhood Network and worked with government agencies, the University of Minnesota and St. John's University to reverse the contamination.

Stearns County Environmental Specialist Cole Loewen says Plumb Creek is one of only 14 waters in the state recommended for delisting compared to hundreds which are being added in 2020.
