ST. CLOUD - Construction of a new downtown St. Cloud parking ramp is almost complete. Assistant Public Works Director Steve Lawrence says they're putting the finishing touches on the River's Edge Convention Center ramp along 5th Avenue.

The ramp itself is complete. It is striped, its got parking stalls. The signage is yet to be finished. A few details yet. We're anticipating opening on November 21st.

Lawrence says the project will be finished just a year after it began. And, they stayed on budget.

The state had awarded the city $11.56 million to do this ramp, not a penny more, not a penny less.  So there was no opportunity to say "we need another $100,000". We're on budget.

Construction was actually supposed to begin in June of last year, but it was delayed when the initial construction proposals all came in over budget. The end result is a scaled back version of the original designs, including removing the connection to the convention center.

The new ramp has just over 400 parking stalls.

In May of 2014 the State Legislature awarded $11.56 million in the bonding bill to pay for the project.
