One Hurt, Another Jailed Following Crash in Paynesville

PAYNESVILLE - One man is injured and another in jail after a crash in Paynesville.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at the intersection of County Road 34 and Highland Drive on Monday at about 10:15 p.m.

Police say 39 year-old Brooks Gunderson of Paynesville attempted to make a left hand turn off County Road 34 onto Highland, and crashed into 36 year-old Shawn Klaphake of Belgrade.

Gunderson then fled the accident scene.

A witness identified Gunderson and his white Ford van to authorities. He was arrested a short time later at his home while trying to hide the van.

Gunderson was booked into Stearns County Jail on charges of criminal vehicular operation and driving while intoxicated.

Klaphake was taken to Paynesville Hospital and then St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
