ST. CLOUD - Some new parking rules go into effect tomorrow (Thursday) night on 5th Avenue in downtown St. Cloud.

The St. Cloud Police Department is beginning a pilot project in the 10 block of 5th Avenue South - that's the block from the Press Bar on the north end to Subway on the South end.

Parking will be prohibited from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights - parking is already prohibited starting at 2:00 a.m.  These parking restrictions will be on both sides of the street.

The goal of the project is to enhance public safety and enable emergency personnel to respond more quickly.

Lieutenant Jeff Oxton says they'll tow any vehicles that are parked illegally, starting at 11:00 p.m.

Also, the taxi stands will be moving to the corner of 5th Avenue and 1st Street South, wrapping around the H lot.
