This weekend, you'll find the Local Blend in St. Joseph filled with guitars, folkies and pens to paper as the Third Annual Weekend Of Songs: Songwriters Festival strums it's first chords.

Adam Hammer and Dave Cofell are the organizers and no strangers to the Central Minnesota music scene. Both are well known for their solo/duo work and their nurturing of budding singer/songwriters as hosts of the Local Blend's Open Mic Night on Tuesdays.

A few years ago, as they were driving home from a gig, they mused of a sort of gathering where they could get together with other like-minded and skilled musicians. Out of that conversation the Weekend of Songs was born. The self-proclaimed Festival of Songwriters begins Friday (Aug 16) at 5pm in the Local Blend. It features not just performances during the three-day acoustic commune, but workshops and idea-melding amongst the performers and attendees.

Adam and Dave were nice enough to stop by the WJON studios to talk about what's in store for you when you attend and to play a couple of tunes. You can listen to the entire interview and their songs Tumbling Down and Goin' to the Graveyard below.

The Weekend of Songs runs Friday (Aug 16) through Sunday (Aug 18). The full schedule is here and full ticket info is here.
