Funeral Services will be at 11 am, Friday, December 4, 2015 at American Lutheran Church, Long Prairie, for Melaine H. Spandl, age 98, of Long Prairie who passed away on Saturday at CentraCare Health Systems – Long Prairie. Rev. Bill Bakewicz will officiate and burial will be in Chapel in the Hills Cemetery, Little Elk Township, Todd County, Minnesota. Family and friends may call from 4-8 pm Thursday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home – Stein Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Melaine Hildegard Truog was born September 23, 1917 in Bruce Township, Todd County, Minnesota, the daughter of August and Ella (Dettler) Truog. She grew up near Pillsbury and graduated from Swanville High School. She married Lloyd William Spandl on May 25, 1937 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville. They farmed for 45 years in Little Elk Township. Melaine moved to Long Prairie in 1981.

Melaine was a member of American Lutheran Church. She liked to play softball and volleyball. She enjoyed playing games, especially card games, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and picking berries. Melaine sewed many quilts for the missions. She enjoyed going on picnics and camping. She also enjoyed some traveling and even went trucking with her grandson where she was able to visit 49 of the 50 states. If ever asked: How are you feeling? The response was “Mean, fat, and ornery.”
Melanie wanted her family to remember her for her smiles and hugs.

Melaine is survived by her children, Robert (Karen) Spandl, Browerville; Joan (Marvin) Munt, Little Fork, MN; Dennis Spandl, Buffalo, WY; Duane (Kathy) Spandl, Grey Eagle; Phyllis Perry, Clinton, MI; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Eleanor Aleshire, daughter-in-law Judy Spandl, brothers Rev. Otto, Gerald, and Erland Truog.
