The St. Cloud University men’s hockey team came up short in OT against the University of Nebraska-Omaha in game two on Saturday.

Omaha struck first, scoring two goals early in the first period. SCSU answered halfway through the period with a power-play goal by Jami Krannila. The Mavericks netted one more and ended the period up 3-1.

St. Cloud State made some adjustments in the second period and tightened up their defense. Nick Perbix scored for the Huskies in the second and Kevin Fitzgerald in the third to tie the game up at 3-3.

In the extra period, Omaha sealed up the win. They lit the lamp 11 seconds in and beat out the Huskies 4-3.

David Hrenak played in only the opening period of the game. He allowed three goals and made seven stops. Jaxon Castor took over in the second, making 16 saves and allowing one goal.

The Huskies fall to 5-7-4 and 3-5-0 NCHC. They will have next weekend off and will return to the ice on Saturday, December 28th when they play Minnesota State University-Mankato at the Mariucci Classic in Minneapolis. You can catch that game at 4:00 p.m. on The River 96.7 FM.
