ST. CLOUD -- "Drive Sober, or get Pulled Over." A phrase we have heard several times, but this weekend it's important to take that message to heart.

Law enforcement will be out in full force this New Year's weekend, to crack down on drunk driving.

State Patrol Sergeant Jesse Grabow says the extra patrol isn't about ruining your fun, but making sure you and others stay safe.

"We see the destruction out there that comes from poor decisions. It's one thing to go to these crashes, but it's another thing to tell someone the person they love is not coming home."

He says their goal isn't about writing tickets but making sure everyone gets to the places they need to go safely.

If you find yourself having too much to drink you can either call a taxi, Uber or Lyft service. Grabow says even if you plan on just drinking a little, it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Everybody always asks 'how many drinks can I have before I shouldn't drive?' If you have to ask yourself that, you probably should drive. So have a plan and a backup plan in case things fall through."

Remember if you need a ride it's important to call in advance as New Year's is the busiest night for transportation services.
