Duluth Transit Center Vandalism Tops $50,000
DULUTH (AP) - Duluth transportation officials say vandalism to its new transit center is expected to top $50,000.
Bathroom fixtures were smashed, computers destroyed and drywall was broken with a sledgehammer. Police arrested an 18-year-old Duluth man after surveillance video captured four hours of vandalism Saturday. Investigators believe he also damaged more than a dozen cars in an adjacent parking ramp.
Transit Authority general manager Dennis Jensen says it's quite a setback for the $30 million center which was slated to open next month. Jensen says it's incomprehensible that someone would cause such senseless and malicious damage.
