ST. PAUL  (AP) - The Minnesota State Colleges and University system has reached an agreement to stay open during a possible government shutdown that could start July 1 -- including St. Cloud State University and the St. Cloud Community and Technical College.

Scott Thiss is chairman of MnSCU's board of trustees. He says the system reached an agreement with Gov. Mark Dayton on Wednesday to keep the system open.

Under the deal, the State Budget Office will stay open during any shutdown to handle the system's finances.

MnSCU has enough money to stay open during a shutdown, but there were concerns it would not have access to it.

Thiss says he expects the deal to be signed later Wednesday.
