Get Ready For Paczki! Coming To This Clearwater Business Soon
If you have ever lived in Minnesota or anywhere with a strong Polish tradition, you already know that something delicious is coming in the month of February.
No...I'm not talking about Valentine's Day chocolates. I'm talking about PACZKI! It is not just a donut, it is a whole celebration.
WHAT'S A PACZKI?
Before we get to where you can find them locally, it helps to understand why paczki matter so much. These rich treats come with a story that stretches back centuries and crosses an ocean before landing on our plates.
Paczki originated in Poland and were traditionally made to use up rich ingredients like sugar, eggs, butter, and lard before the season of Lent began.

Back when Lent meant strict fasting, families wanted to enjoy every last indulgence in the pantry, so paczki were made as a way to celebrate 'abundance before restraint.' They were heavier and richer than the donuts many of us are used to, filled with fruit preserves or custards, and often topped with powdered sugar or glaze.
THE TRADITION OF 'FAT TUESDAY'
As Polish immigrants made their way to the United States, they brought paczki with them, along with the tradition of eating them in the days leading up to Lent. Over time, paczki became closely associated with Fat Tuesday, the last big food celebration before Lent begins. Even people without Polish roots have happily adopted the tradition, because once you try a paczki, it is hard to forget.

DONUT VS. PACZKI
What makes paczki different from a standard donut is that extra richness. They are denser, more filling, and meant to feel like a treat you slow down and savor. The fillings are generous, the dough is softer, and one paczki can easily feel like a full dessert all on its own. It is comfort food with history baked right in.
PACZKI AT 'THE CLEARWATER TRAVEL PLAZA' IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
That is why it is such fun news to hear that paczki will be available at the Clearwater Travel Plaza in Clearfield throughout February. You know...The place with donuts as big as your head?
This is one of those spots many of us already stop at for coffee, fuel, or a quick bite, and now it is turning into a place to grab a taste of tradition. You do not need to travel far or hunt down a specialty bakery to join in on paczki season this year.
MAKE FEBRUARY SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO
I love it when local places lean into food traditions like this, especially ones that carry so much meaning and nostalgia. I didn't personally grow up knowing what Paczki was, but it's fun to learn about it. February can feel long and cold here in Minnesota, and honestly, that makes it the perfect time for a rich, joyful pastry.
So if you see paczki at the Clearwater Travel Plaza this February, take it as a sign. Grab one, maybe grab two, and enjoy a little piece of history that has found its way to central Minnesota and its Polish immigrants.
