ST. CLOUD -- A California man has been sentenced to probation after after he was found transporting 50 pounds of marijuana through central Minnesota.

Thirty-two-year-old John Nilmeyer pleaded guilty in April to felony 3rd degree drug possession.

Court records show he was pulled over in Sauk Centre last spring for tinted tail lights and failing to signal a lane change. The officer noticed the smell of marijuana in the car and a police dog uncovered 50 vacuum-sealed, one-pound bags of pot in duffel bags.

Nilmeyer gets credit for serving four days in the Stearns County Jail and will be on probation for 20 years.  If he violates the terms of his probation he could be sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.
