Bishop: No Meat Fridays Gets a Reprieve for St. Patrick’s Day
ST. CLOUD - Good news for Catholics in the Diocese of St. Cloud, you can go ahead and eat your corned beef, Irish stew and Shepherd's pie Friday on St. Patrick's Day.
Bishop Donald Kettler has granted a dispensation from the obligation to abstain from eating meat, because the holiday falls on a Friday during Lent this year.
Catholics are supposed to fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for Catholics ages 14 and older.
