SAUK RAPIDS - A 70-year-old building in a Sauk Rapids park will likely be getting some upgrades.

The Old Log Building in Municipal Park is in need of some repairs. City staff want to replace the roof, install new windows and doors, refurbish the log siding, and add an open air addition on the north end for people using the playground equipment. They also want to refurbish the floors, remove the stone fireplace, and bring the electric up to code. And, perhaps most importantly, add bathrooms to the south side of the building. The building has water, but no sewer, so a sewer line would have to be installed.

With these changes the city is anticipating the building, which was built in 1947, to get much more use.

The total cost for the project is just over $186,000, which would be paid for using half-cent sales tax dollars.

Work should begin in about six weeks.

During Monday's special city council meeting the council will be asked to approve the low bid for the improvements to the Old Log Building.
