SAUK RAPIDS -- Sauk Rapids is considering sprucing up a city park building.

Sauk Rapids Finance Director, Jack Kahlhamer says the city is considering remodeling the log building at the Municipal Park.

Many improvements will be made to the structure. Kahlhamer says some of the larger improvements include replacing the roof and a rock fire place.

"The big thing we would take out would be the chimney, there's a big stone fire place chimney in there and it would open up much more space for a kitchen area."

Kahlhamer says they would also plan to add a bathroom, an overhang doorway in the building by the playground equipment, new windows and new walkways.

The cost of the project is estimated to be more than $100,000. Kahlamer says they already have a funding plan set in place.

"This will be [funded by] sales tax dollars for the parks."

Right now the city council is waiting on a design concept to be presented and a more accurate estimated project cost.

If all goes to plan, renovations would begin in Spring of 2017.
