ST. CLOUD/SAUK RAPIDS - Area superintendents want to reassure parents that their children are safe at school.  This is the first day of classes since last Friday's deadly school shooting in Connecticut.

Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent Dan Bittman says the district works hard to make their buildings safe.

Meanwhile, St. Cloud Superintendent Bruce Watkins says they go through regular lockdown drills.

Every school in the state is required to practice regular lockdown drills.

Both Watkins and Bittman say they'll have councilors and social workers available for students and staff who need to talk with someone today.
