The ongoing drought throughout Minnesota and North and South Dakota is forcing duck hunters to adjust their plans for this fall. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says we should expect smaller broods of birds and not as many young ducks due to the dry, drought like conditions.

Minnesota's bear population has been on the rise over the past few years. The DNR has indicated that the amount of those applicating for bear hunting is up to 24,600 people. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News says we haven't seen that number in more than 2 decades according to the DNR. He says "Minnesota is a really good bear hunting state."

The Minnesota DNR released their new deer hunting regulations. These regulations for will allow deer hunters to shoot more than one deer in more than half the state. Glen says his normal duck hunting location is filled in with cat tails and lily pads and it may be tough to get a boat into your usual spot.

Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says the largest walleye he's ever caught is 32-incher and he's caught many in that 30-inch range. He says that size of fish doesn't come around every day. Glen says the state record will probably never be broken. It was caught on the gun flint trail on the Sea Gull River in the 1970s and was 17 pounds and 6 ounces.
