ST. JOSEPH -- How does a St. Joseph resident cross the road? A new study is looking to answer that question.

Hoping to make the County Road 75 crossing safer, the city has been looking at:

  • Overhead crossing.
  • Underground crossing.
  •  A combination crossing.
  •  Adding to the existing crossing.

City Administrator Judy Weyrens says business access is a key motivator.

"Some of the businesses that have created a greater need to cross 75 are CentraCare, Coburn's, McDonald's, and a new Oreilly's that's coming, so we're just looking and where people are going and how do we get them there."

Weyrens says the crossing will cost two to three million dollars, depending on the study's recommendation.

The study to come up with solutions on a crossing will cost 40-thousand dollars to do, and it's findings will be shown to the city in July.

The city will have a community input session starting at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Government Center.
