ST. CLOUD -- Every fall thousands of people start to feel irritable and can't seem to get a good night's sleep. It's the start of Seasonal Affective Disorder also known as S.A.D.

Dr. Troy Payne is the Medical Director of St. Cloud Hospital's Sleep Center. He says S.A.D. sufferers have more than just the winter blues.  It can cause a strain on relationships, family and friends.  It can also negatively impact work.

Dr. Payne says the good news is that we are turing the corner on the S.A.D. season. He says it may not seem like it, but the days are getting longer and the sun is getting stronger.

If you suffer from irritability and sleeplessness and it is more than just the winter blues, you should call your doctor.  Dr. Payne says you can get light therapy to help you get through the fall and winter months.
