ST. CLOUD -- Hundreds of car lovers came out to St. Cloud Technical and Community College Saturday for the school's 1st annual auto show that raises money for student Veterans.

Over 30 cars -- ranging from pristine classics to new-age hot rods -- were on display in the fundraising show co-opted by the school's Automotive Skills Club and Student Veterans Organization (SVO).

Paul Kohler, President of the SVO, says they have been looking to organize an event and working with the Automotive Skills Club was a natural fit.

"We've been trying to find events to help the Veterans community out as a whole," says Kohler, a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

"We got a very strong response from the automotive department -- [due to] the fact that many of their current members are also Veterans themselves -- [and] quite frankly, I'm very impressed and amazed by the turnout we've had today."

Alex Veillette, President of the Automotive Skills Club, says getting to work with the SVO on the event was a win-win.

"It's just pure enjoyment," Veillette says. "We get to provide to the community, show off these beautiful cars, and raise publicity for the the clubs and the school."

"What we really wanted to do was raise awareness for what our club does for the community and what the student Vets do."

The day's proceeds will benefit the automotive club as well as the SVO, which helps not only Veterans returning to the classroom, but also around the community.
