ST. CLOUD -- For the first time in Hockey Day Minnesota history, two teams will be playing a competitive televised game outdoors.

The historic matchup between St. Cloud State University and their rival University of Minnesota-Duluth on Hockey Day Minnesota will take place at Lake George.

SCSU women's coach Eric Rud says the women's game has come along way and this is just another chance for them to showcase their talents.

"The quality of play, the interest, the amount of talent is awesome. And for us to showcase that at Hockey Day Minnesota is tremendous for women's hockey and our program."

Rud says getting to be apart of Hockey Day Minnesota was a fairly easy choice.

"Before it was announced we were asked if we wanted to be apart of it and play outdoors. It was a pretty quick yes from us."

SCSU senior captain and Hill-Murray grad Brittney Anderson was in the stands last time her school was playing on Hockey Day Minnesota. She says she is excited that it is her team's turn to take center ice.

"It's great to have it in St. Cloud, it's an amazing community. Playing an outdoor game does not happen all the time so it makes you want to work harder and enjoy it that much more."

After it's all said and done for some this is just another hockey game that adds to the team's record. Anderson says for others, it's a chance to showcase the women's game to a larger audience.

"The event brings in the community more and knowing that we have women's hockey in the middle of it is really great."

The St. Cloud State Women's team plays at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Lake George.
