SAUK RAPIDS -- A nearly $2 million street project will be up for discussion at the Sauk Rapids City Council meeting tonight (Monday).

The city is considering spending the money to make improvements to 3rd Avenue South from 1st Street South to 200 feet south of 5th Street South.  2nd Street South from 3rd Avenue South to 4th Avenue.  And 1st Street South and 3rd Street South.

This same project was considered just three years ago, but it was put on hold in 2008 because it was too expensive.  Now, with the help of a state grant, city officials want it to move forward.

51 property owners in the area affected would be assessed a total of $429,000 for their share of the $1.86 million project.

A public hearing on the issue will be held tonight.

The city council meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Sauk Rapids Fire Hall.
