Sauk Rapids City Council Approves CUP for Gun Range
SAUK RAPIDS - A plan to bring a gun range to Sauk Rapids is one step closer to becoming a reality. The city council unanimously approved a Conditional Use Permit during their meeting this (Tuesday) evening for the business Firing Line LLC.
Owners Deb and Jim Byer want to build the facility at 3409 Mayhew Lake Road, which will include a retail space, training space, and indoor shooting range.
The city council's CUP includes a condition that sound from the guns cannot be heard off the property. One person spoke out against the facility during the public hearing, Matt Gaffy lives near the proposed area and is concerned about the noise.
Owner Jim Byer says the range will be a destination, and will bring people to town. He says there is a huge demand for a range, because there are no other ranges like this between Brainerd and Monticello.
The retail area will be 3,320 square feet, and the shooting range will be 2,940 square feet.
Deb Byer tells WJON they're still working to finalize the financing for the project, and they'll have a better idea of a timeline for completion in a few months.
