SARTELL -- The city of Sartell has approved a preliminary 2013 budget increase of about 4.2% or $5.7-million.

It translates to a levy increase of about 2%, totaling $4.9-million.

Sartell City Administrator Patti Gartland says if approved, they would use the additional money for road maintenance projects and to hire another police officer and public works mechanic.

The budget and levy could be lowered but can't go any higher at this point.

A final 2013 budget and levy will be adopted following truth-in-taxation hearings in December.
