ST. CLOUD -- Stearns County will collect less taxes next year after the board of commissioners voted on a 1% decrease in the 2012 budget.

The board had three options to choose from including a 1% increase, a 1/3% decrease and a 1% decrease.

The commissioners chose option three to spend one-percent less next year.

It means the county will collect about $700-thousand less in taxes. As a result, some technology projects will be postponed.

The county will now hold its truth-in-taxation hearing Tuesday, November 29th at 6:00 p.m. The county can lower the tax levy up until that time but it cannot be raised.
