Stearns County plans to spend about $3,500,000 more next year in their 2018 preliminary budget. But, the good news is the 4.7% increase in the tax levy is expected to be offset by the same amount of growth in the county's tax base.
Stearns County will collect less taxes next year after the board of commissioners voted on a 1% decrease in the 2012 budget. The board had three options to choose from including a 1% increase, a 1/3% decrease and a 1% decrease.
Stearns County Administrator George Rindelaub presented three budget and levy scenarios to county commissioners today. The proposals were a zero percent increase, one percent decrease and a one percent increase.
